ABSTRACT

Parent involvement is an inseparable part of quality early childhood education (ECE) systems. It provides an interchange between two important systems of young children’s lives – the ECE programme and the family. This exchange brings values of family into the class and values of the ECE programme into the home. By this function, the parent involvement process provides quality care and education for children both in the family and in the ECE programme. For this very reason, it places special emphasis on parent involvement in all early childhood programmes all around the world as, well as in the Turkish ECE system and the national programme. In this chapter, initially the place of parent involvement in current and previous national early childhood education programmes (NECEP) is discussed. Later on, parent involvement is discussed as reflected in Turkish literature by depending on available published papers and theses.
