ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on the perspectives presented of teachers’ and families’ contributions in early childhood education and care (ECEC) from the countries involved. Good-quality ECEC not only helps with school readiness but also raises standards of early childhood educators and parents’ confidence in the teaching and care of their children. The ECEC teachers struggle to achieve a balance between workplace demands and their own personal capacity. Families across the chapters had very strong beliefs about their role and environment in supporting their children in learning and development. Early childhood education and care is a complex arena that involves the participation of many adults. This specific volume has focused on teachers/educators and families. The countries represented shared current changes and reforms within teaching and teacher education, including the professionalisation of the early childhood workforce through the implementation of bachelor requirements, standards and professional learning.
