ABSTRACT

In this chapter some aspects and issues of Russia’s relations with China will be discussed in connection within their globalization drive. Since both countries joined the World Trade Organization (WTO), they have opened up their economies to foreign influences. On the other hand, both countries are still controlling their financial and energy sector with state-owned companies pursuing their own global policy. Since 2000 Russia and China have closely collaborated to serve their own industrialization aims. China is especially interested in oil and natural gas imports from Russia, while Russia wants to diversify its exports and acquire Chinese investment in its high-tech sector in order to modernize its industry and diversify its exports. Meanwhile, China and Russia have become allies in world politics and trade partners.
