ABSTRACT
With the rise of China and India, the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles by North Korea, and ongoing territorial and maritime sovereignty disputes – all in the complicating context of economic globalization – U.S. policy makers have important choices to make regarding America’s current and prospective role in the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific maritime region – choices involving both challenges and opportunities.
