ABSTRACT
Religion is a pervasive element of news media in African societies. Religious issues are constant topics of news coverage and commentary, while religious values shape the professional practices of news gathering and news writing. This chapter gives an overview of African journalism, highlighting religious aspects. It discusses two case studies on the intersections of religion and journalism in Africa: one case study on the representation of Boko Haram in Nigeria and the other on the representation of Islamic communities in Ghana.
