ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents the case for a more nuanced perspective on graduate transitions out of university and into their careers. It provides a valuable illumination upon graduate underemployment and how this can represent an ordinary stage of adjustment from university life for some, but also risks being something that individuals may get stuck in. The chapter argues that the space at the boundary between academic researchers and practitioners is a fertile one, which should be embraced for the benefit of all, not least the current generation of students and graduates. It outlines as being reflective of varied organisational responses to employability and discusses careers service managers who actively promote the development of research and knowledge in practice, which can be responsive to organisational and policy demands.
