ABSTRACT
A phenomenon unique to second division in compound meter is that it combines both binary and ternary groupings. The beat in compound meter is divided into three parts (ternary structure), but each of those divisions is divided only into two parts (binary structure). Thus, there is a simple beat structure within compound meter.
