ABSTRACT
Module A: The Method The method described in this textbook is based on the idea that most people hear music as combinations of scale degrees in a key. This fundamental point should be reinforced and repeated often during the course. Accordingly, the first thing students should study and memorize is the unique sound of individual scale degrees in the major and minor modes (Module 2). It is only after one truly masters the ability to sing without preparation and to hear any diatonic scale degree in a key that one can become truly proficient at dictation and singing music at sight.
