ABSTRACT
Scribbles… marks… drawings… there are several names given to children’s early attempts at making marks on a piece of paper, depending on to whom one talks and who one reads. I, myself, have evolved in how I label and describe children’s beginning attempts at writing and/or drawing, as I continually ask what are young children doing when crayon meets paper—what do the marks that result from that union really mean?
