ABSTRACT

This chapter follows from the previous one by focusing on the practicalities of ‘doing’ ethnographic fieldwork and living in ‘the field’. Exploring different fieldwork techniques, it offers practical advice for writing fieldnotes, recording experiences, and transforming rich fieldwork encounters into usable forms of ethnographic data. We also consider other aspects of fieldwork and decisions that you will have to think about and make as you develop your own fieldwork style and approach, and begin to generate your ethnographic material.
