ABSTRACT

Technology is a critical component of virtually all contemporary workplaces, particularly in knowledge-intensive domains, where information and knowledge constitute the product (Hardt & Negri, 2008) and where work challenges are increasingly complex and inherently multidisciplinary. As already highlighted in Sections I and II, professional learning is both continual (occurring constantly, intertwined with work) and social (dependent upon and carried out with other people). In the workplace, technology has become a critical component of professional learning. Tools enable the close integration of learning with work, supported by networks that facilitate learners’ connections to other people and to sources of knowledge.
