ABSTRACT

Contention over history textbooks is often a political battle over institutional efforts to shape the historical memory of the future generations of the nation. For most of these young citizens, it may be the only opportunity of learning history. Though its actual transmission depends a lot on the approach and perspective taken by the teachers in the classroom as well as the extent to which the students absorb and retain knowledge 1 , secondary history lessons and manuals arguably have the widest reach and influence possible on the younger generation when compared with other historical books.
