ABSTRACT
The past 35 years of performance studies have been tremendously successful in showcasing the role that physical action has in Greek drama. However, already 15 years before Taplin’s Stagecraft of Aeschylus, Austin’s How to do things with words had made the case that speech is equally to be regarded as ‘action’. Recent years have seen a rising interest in the performative aspect of the language of ancient drama.
