ABSTRACT
The attachment relationship forms a cornerstone of infants· social , emotional and cognitive development. During the early months of life, infants display a preparedness for social engagement, but specific attachments to particular caregivers do not emerge reliably until about the age of 7 months. Thus relationships , as we have defined them, can be seen to develop their unique characteristics towards the end of the first year of life.
