ABSTRACT
In this short article, Jonathan Wolff attempts to answer the question of why Marx thought the planned economy was connected with human freedom. Production within the capitalist free market leads to alienation, and Wolff explores various aspects of this problematic term. Alienation can be eliminated if we take control of the social forces that surround production. Hence a planned economy, by removing alienation, will bring an increase in freedom.
