ABSTRACT

Time. Space. Topography. These three words epitomize the immanence of the field of performance. More than that, topography which includes every movement of bodies as well as every arrangement of places or sites of performance, is always accompanied by a certain experience of time and space, which is implicit in it and, maybe more important, conditions it. This is why, as I wish to contend, at least in terms of a theoretical discussion, no new topography of performance is possible without taking into consideration how time and space are experienced mentally and physically under specific and specifiable historical (that is, political, social and ideological) circumstances.
