ABSTRACT

It seemed unlikely in 1972 that discussions of levels of processing would extend into the next millenium, much less be the theme of a session graced with eminent speakers from four different countries. In his editorial letter of acceptance of the manuscript for Craik and Lockhart (1972), Tulving wrote, “I predict a bright future for these ideas, at least some of them.” The predicted brightness of that future may be a matter for dispute, but its longevity is not.
