ABSTRACT
The goal of this chapter is to discuss five Web-based instructional design opportunities and problems and to briefly summarize the results of current research on each issue. The chapter is intended to encourage discussion about the instructional design models and methods used to plan and evaluate distance education courses. The choice of topics was influenced by perceived benefits and difficulties with the models and assumptions that underlie the design of current Web-based courses.
