ABSTRACT

This book honours the work of Gunther Kress. Its title Multimodality and Social Semiosis: Communication, Meaning-Making, and Learning in the Work of Gunther Kress on the one hand gathers up strands that have been present in all of his work, and on the other highlights the achievement and impact of that work over the last two decades particularly. Gunther Kress has worked in a number of distinct fields (leaving aside the first years of his working life, from the age of 14 to 26, as a furrier’s apprentice and then furrier). When asked, he finds no difficulty in tracing the fundamental relatedness of these strands.
