ABSTRACT

In a multicultural society, it is important to include aspects of a range of cultures right across the curriculum so that children can understand different and often unfamiliar cultural traditions with an open mind unhindered by stereotyped beliefs. The rationale for simulations is the educational principle that learning through doing is more effective than learning through formal didacticism. Conflict and Compromise is one such program written to manage role played negotiations. There are a number of published negotiations available, each one a file to be used with the program. Within the National Curriculum, information technology exists not only to support learning across curriculum but also as a subject of study in its own right. It has its own attainment targets and programmes of study laid out in Technology Order. Like the rest of information technology capability, the issues to be covered in attainment targets concerned with applications and effects should be encountered across the curriculum wherever information technology is applied.
