ABSTRACT

Let us turn to a real developmental application with an important phenomenon. Patterson raises the question of how one identifies developmental trajectories in a trait that has a reasonably high level of stability such as is the case with aggression. In previous research, by the way, Patterson has shown that the development of antisocial behavior in boys follows the type of fanning-out model that Rogosa discussed for achievement. In this chapter, Patterson approaches his question in a novel way by discussing the distinct trajectories of adolescent delinquents and the development of the strange and emergent beast of the Chimera.
