ABSTRACT

Assessment centre methods (ACM) undoubtedly derive their name from a building where people were invited to participate in all kinds of assignments to determine their suitability for a certain position. How this was done and what experts were involved cannot be deduced from the name. Such centres were probably used by large organizations such as the government, the army, and multinationals. A comparison can be drawn with the refrigerator, which was known as “frigidair” after a well-known brand.
