ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on coaching tactics for games and highlight the importance of developing coach knowledge, particularly tactical knowledge, if coaches aim to improve their players’ tactical and decision-making abilities. Details of game tactics, with reference to how tactics can be modified according to the developmental needs of the player, will also be provided. This chapter will also describe some of the approaches for developing player tactical performance that are available to coaches and the theories that explain how their players learn tactical skills. Finally, some practical examples are provided to demonstrate how coaching practices might be organised.
