ABSTRACT

The legendary Dionysius searched in vain for one honest person; contemporary school counselors might search for a practitioner who is thoroughly versed and skilled in the applications of contemporary law, ethics, and standards of community practice. The complex, severe problems of today’s students and their families, the proliferation of laws and regulations affecting practice, and the increasing awareness and shifting values of society combine to create an ethical mine field in which counselors must operate (Lakin, 1988).
