ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the theory of reasoned action may be applied to the study of HIV/AIDS-preventive behaviour. In this chapter we will review the current behavioural research in HIV/AIDS prevention and examine major issues surrounding the use of the theory of reasoned action in behavioural AIDS research. However, no application of the theory can be free from the context of its use. Prior to discussing the application of the theory, we will first examine the epidemiological and social contexts in which AIDS prevention research must be conducted.
