ABSTRACT

A coded record of recent or ‘last’ editions follows the title and date of many of the plays listed in the Index below. The expanded entries incorporate the publications previously contained in a separate List of Editions and add bibliographical information on new publications. All of the publication data following a play's title are categorized, and each category is represented by an initial which corresponds to the initial found in the seventh column of the Chronology and Information section: C designating a comprehensive collection in which the play appears; S designating the publication of an edition as part of a scholarly series; E indicating a modern edition which was not part of a series; F indicating a facsimile edition; V designating the Shakespeare Variorum edition; VS representing the publication of a Shakespeare Variorum Supplement; and T indicating a thesis edition. Because of their number and the space constraints of this publication, editions of Shakespeare's plays as well as single editions and collections are omitted. When the editor of a thesis subsequently publishes an edition of the same play, the thesis entry is omitted. Titleless plays and unidentified manuscript fragments are listed in Supplementary List I.
