ABSTRACT
A critical approach to the present complexity of urban morphological issues in British architecture has to contend mainly with two related factors. The first is the ambiguous overlapping of the historical picturesque, vernacular, arts and crafts tradition with an internationally pursued Modern Movement. The second is the lack of any method or concerted approach shown towards the analysis of the physical form of the city by the humanities and social sciences.
