ABSTRACT
One of the most important changes in Russia since the end of the Soviet regime has been the recognition of social problems. Certainly, such social ills as alcoholism, crime or low labour discipline existed in the Soviet days. However, they were explained away by official propaganda as being ‘the relics of capitalism in the people's minds’ and deviations from communist morality.
