ABSTRACT

The Freedom Ride has influenced my life, but more importantly, it has influenced the course of Australian history. Although I have written about it at length in my book, Freedom Ride: A Freedom Rider Remembers, I retell the story here, in order that we may compare it, in aims, methods and impact, with the Tent Embassy (Curthoys 2002). 1 Both events were critical in the development of Aboriginal protest and non-Aboriginal awareness of Aboriginal demands and experiences. 2
