ABSTRACT
The current approach to school psychology in Italy is largely determined by theoretical and philosophical forces unfamiliar to those outside the country. This chapter presents an historical overview of the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of Italian psychology in an attempt to provide a context for a better understanding of the current status of psychology in the schools. The Italian educational system as well as the training and employment of school psychologists are also discussed.
