ABSTRACT

The educational system under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education is divided into three levels. The primary level includes pre-elementary and elementary schools for children ages 2 to 11. The secondary level includes “colleges” (e.g., junior high schools) for ages 12 to 15 as well as professional college and general and technical “lycees” (e.g., senior high schools) for ages 16 to 18. The tertiary level includes preparatory classes, schools for engineers, and universities. Although most classes and schools for special education are integrated in elementary and secondary schools, some are separate schools provided for by the Ministry of Health.
