ABSTRACT

The serotonergic (5–hydroxytryptamine) neurotransmitter system has been repeatedly implicated in the control of ingestive behaviours, with most agonists producing decreases (Blundell 1977, 1986). Recently, a new potent and selective serotonin agonist, 8–OH–DPAT, has been reported to increase feeding in non–deprived rats at low doses (e.g. Dourish et al., 1985a, b).
