ABSTRACT

There is considerable current interest in the influence of affective state on various spheres of human judgment and behavior (e.g., Baron, 1990; Bodenhausen, in press; Forgas & Bower, 1987, 1988; Isen, 1984, 1987; Johnson & Tversky, 1983; Mackie & Worth, 1989, 1991; Petty, Cacioppo, Sedikides, & Strathman, 1988; Petty, Gleicher, & Baker, 1991; Schwarz, 1988, 1990; Schwarz, Bless, & Bohner, 1991; Schwarz & Clore, 1983,1988; Sinclair, 1988; Sinclair & Mark, 1991). In this chapter, we address the impact of mood states on decision making and performance in several areas. Our focus is primarily on the role of processing strategy as a possible mediator of the effects of mood.
