ABSTRACT

In the 1940s, when Piaget’s influence was approaching its zenith in France and the other Francophone European countries, Wallon (1970, 1973c) proposed a model of early communication and social development, as well as hypotheses about their role in cognitive development. He also put forward an overview of ways to study ontogenesis, in which he stressed the value of taking emerging and disappearing abilities and features of development into account simultaneously.
