ABSTRACT
It is generally believed that American Sign Language has no grammatical tense, but rather that temporal information is conveyed through the use of time adverbials. 1 However, there is evidence that ASL does in fact mark tense grammatically. This chapter addresses the use of lexical tense markers in American Sign Language. 2
