ABSTRACT

Gottesman and Goldsmith (this volume) have provided an excellent and balanced review of the developmental behavioral genetic literature on aggression and antisocial behavior. The thoroughness of their effort precludes the need for additional comment on specific empirical findings in this area. Consequently, I aim, in these comments, to expand upon several of the significant conceptual points Gottesman and Goldsmith made in their chapter. These comments find their title in Gottesman and Goldsmith’s call for “… developmentalists … [to] make room for genetic concepts,” and are organized around themes introduced in the Gottesman and Goldsmith chapter, and, in particular, their emphasis upon the interrelationship between genetic and environmental effects and the consequent need for ecumenical approaches and perspectives.
