ABSTRACT
Normatively, adulthood is the time in life when people establish independence from their families of origin, pursue careers, identify life partners, and raise children of their own. During this period, expertise in specialized domains is attained and social networks are created and solidified. In many ways, adulthood is characterized as a time of acquisition, as well as a process of differentiation (Whitbourne, 1986).
