ABSTRACT

Life events are those events that have an effect on an individual’s life course. In General Psychology and in Developmental Psychology, researchers have investigated events covering the whole spectrum from the ubiquitous, behavior-shaping reinforcements to critical events that change individuals’ life courses. Examples of the former include the experimenters’ “hm-hm” or the token given to children for behaving well. Examples of the latter include accidental pregnancies or retirements.
