ABSTRACT

Each year the Department of Defense (DOD) recruits more than 200,000 men and women into the enlisted ranks of the Anny, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Probably the single most important issue in enlistment policy is determining the goals for recruit "quality," where quality is commonly measured by two characteristics: an individual's score on the Anned Forces Qualification Test (AFQT), part of a written test administered to all potential enlistees; and high school graduation status.
