ABSTRACT

The chapters presented by Campion (1), Ilgen (2), Campbell (3), Organ (4), and Edwards and Morrison (5) raise a variety of issues and imply a number of challenges to researchers interested in measuring and predicting job performance in the military. In this paper, I comment on each of the preceding papers, and attempt to highlight both the unique issues raised in each paper and the communalities. In particular, I discuss the implications of these papers for conceptualizing and predicting job performance. Taken together, these papers present some fundamental challenges to present conceptions of job analysis and job performance measurement, and they suggest several vital areas of future research for the military in the next several decades.
