ABSTRACT

Loevinger (1976) described stages of ego development and measured them empirically with her SCT. She defined stages in terms of impulse control, conscious preoccupations, and interpersonal behavioral patterns. An important ability acquired during development is the capacity to view others as separate people with whom one might cooperate and be interdependent. Before achieving this capacity, the individual might view others as objects to be manipulated. Such concepts helped me evolve my work.
