ABSTRACT

Since the 1970s, reading has received a great deal of attention. English-speaking authors, basing themselves on lexical decision and naming data from normal subjects and on the errors of acquired dyslexics, have defended dual-route models of reading, because there seem to be two different ways of reading, each with its own set of processes. The Spanish writing system, however, presents striking contrasts with English; therefore, what seems unquestionable in English may not even be true in Spanish.
