ABSTRACT

This volume began as an effort to renew and extend the promise of Child's (1968) overview of personality in culture in the Handbook of Personality Theory and Research. We argued in the Introduction that growing awareness of issues in cross-cultural research has revived interest in Child's topic, after 30 years of relative neglect. In this concluding chapter, the editors look back at the contributions of the volume to give their own sense of the issues and directions of current research on personality in culture.
