ABSTRACT

This chapter offers insights and data concerning factors that can affect the construct and criterion-related validity of situational judgment tests (SJTs). First, we review the history of the debates concerning the validity of SJTs. Next, we review four characteristics of SJT items that are logically related to issues of construct and criterion-related validity. Then, we summarize evidence on construct validity, criterion-related validity, and incremental validity of SJTs. Next, we present a model that integrates the findings. Finally, we offer topics for future research concerning the construct and criterion-related validity of SJTs.
