ABSTRACT
The concepts of the body image and the body schema are attached in the manner of Siamese twins—different, but merged. Body schema is the older term. It had its origins eariy in the twentieth century, in the writings of Henry Head on the phenomena of brain lesions and peripheral neuropathology that would alter the representation or schema of one's body and one's body functions in one's brain. These alterations in the brain would, in turn, alter one's personal recognition of one's own body, and of the location and function of its parts and regions.
