ABSTRACT

Breast cancer is a leading killer of women. It is estimated that during 1988 in the U.S.A. alone, approximately 135,000 new cases will have been diagnosed and nearly 42,00 women will have lost their lives due to it. Breast cancer incidence increases with age, making it the leading cause of death in U.S. women aged 40–44 and the leading cause of cancer death in women aged 25–74. One woman in ten will contract the disease at some time during her life.
