ABSTRACT

As the chapters in this book testify, there has been much recent progress towards a computational-level understanding of the mechanisms that underlie human short-term memory performance. Indeed, there are encouraging signs of a convergence towards a vocabulary of common terminology and the development of a “toolbox” of different mechanisms that can be invoked to explain, at a computational level, many of the phenomena of human short-term memory. However, a wide gap between models and data remains in many areas.
