ABSTRACT
One function of mind is to create models of reality so as to allow effective action and decision-making (Craik, 1943). A mental model symbolises a situation or entity in the world by letting mental tokens, their properties and relations correspond to actual entities and their properties and relations (e.g. Johnson-Laird, 1983, 1993). Such models may be constructed from perceptual information or from verbal descriptions.
