ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to present a model which adopts principles of cognitive and behavioral strategies as a means of intervention with the post-traumatic stress disorder manifested after a heart attack. This model is used during phases of recovery and rehabilitation with the victim, the victim’s key family members and co-workers. Presently, the efficacy of this intervention effort, which is being carried out by nurses, is being evaluated as part of an overall return-to-work project sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
