ABSTRACT

All loving couples encounter problems in their relationships. Most of these couples will go about working difficulties out through their own coping strategies or through their natural support networks. These natural support networks include extended family, church, and close friends. If a relationship problem is serious enough to be threatening the stability of the relationship, if the couple is motivated, and if the individual and support network efforts have not proved successful in resolving the problem, many couples will turn to professional social service agencies for help. These couples may be heterosexual and married, heterosexual and cohabitating, or heterosexual and premarital. They may also be homosexual.
